Trae AI IDE Reaches 6 Million Users, Adds Worktree and Automation Features
Trae AI IDE Surpasses 6 Million Users, Launches Worktree and Automation Features
San Francisco — ByteDance’s free AI-native integrated development environment (IDE), Trae, has surpassed six million users in Q2 2026, marking a major milestone in the rapidly competitive AI coding assistant market. To coincide with the growth, the platform has rolled out version v3.5.61-62, introducing robust new capabilities including Worktree, Voice Discussion, and advanced Automation features.
Launched as a no-cost alternative to established coding environments, Trae has rapidly attracted developers by deeply integrating AI into the core workflow. The latest update looks to solidify that momentum by addressing complex, multi-tasking development needs.
The headline addition is Worktree, a highly requested feature that allows developers to manage multiple branches and work on parallel tasks simultaneously without needing to clone separate repositories. This is paired with the new Automation suite, which enables developers to configure custom AI-driven workflows to handle repetitive tasks, such as boilerplate generation and automated testing pipelines, directly within the IDE.
Collaboration and communication also get an upgrade with Voice Discussion, allowing pair programmers or team members to interact with the AI agent and each other using natural voice commands. Furthermore, Trae has deepened its extensibility by officially integrating Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing the IDE to seamlessly connect with external data sources and third-party developer tools.
On the model front, Trae continues to expand its AI hardware support. The v3.5.61-62 update integrates the latest Kimi K2.5 and K2.6 models, giving developers access to improved reasoning and code generation capabilities right out of the box.
“Surpassing six million users validates our vision of making powerful, AI-native development tools freely accessible,” a Trae spokesperson said. “With Worktree and Automation, we are moving beyond simple code generation to provide an intelligent environment that manages the entire development lifecycle.”
The v3.5.61-62 update is available immediately for all Trae users.
